Solar Expanse offers a grounded approach to space expansion, focusing on the real-world solar system and the gradual progression from out current space industry to near-future planetary colonization and late game terraforming.

The early stages of the experience feel somewhat guided, walking through initial systems and projects. However, after several hours, the game begins to open significantly, presenting a wide array of options including mining operations, colony development, and long-term terraforming efforts.

During the session, initial steps toward colonizing Luna and Mars were successfully established, while mining operations were started on an asteroid and Mars’ moom Phobos.

The core systems show promise and provide a satisfying sense of progression. At the same time, the experience would benefit from multiple quality-of-life improvements and clearer information presentation, particularly as complexity increases. Keeping track of ships and components, as well and repetition in mission creation, started to slow things down when you would hope they speed up some.

Despite these shortcomings, Solar Expanse leaves a strong early impression. The foundation is in place, and the potential for a deep and engaging experience is evident. The future roadmap even includes potential inter-stellar travel.

For now, Solar Expanse has been placed in Cryostasis.

The expansion has begun.

Completion will come later.

Pronouncement: Placed in Cryostasis pending further development.
