Vultures - Scavengers of Death embraces the aesthetics and structure of classic 90s survival horror, recreating the atmosphere of the PlayStation era while layering in a number of modern quality-of-life improvements.
Everything from the visuals to the floating and spinning loot pickups feels intentionally retro. The presentation evokes memories of early survival horror experiments without feeling trapped entirely in the past.
Gameplay centers around tactical extraction-style missions. Players enter dangerous locations alone, searching for information and clues before attempting to survive long enough to escape. During the session, a full mission was completed, including a boss encounter and several opportunities to experiment with the game’s combat systems.
What initially appears simple gradually reveals more flexibility. Combat mechanics provide a surprising number of tactical options in how encounters with monsters and zombies can be approached and your ability to use the environment some, adding depth beneath the retro presentation.
Across roughly two hours, the game consistently exceeded expectations and proved more enjoyable than anticipated.
However, despite the positive impression, the current release schedule leaves little room for further deployments at this time.
Vultures is therefore recorded as Dead. Attempts at resurrection will be made to experience it more but it’s hard to lock in right now.
